There are a town centre with shops, a primary school and a community hall, and an extensive linear park with a wetland. The main boulevard is Hazel Glen Drive. It adjoins a campus of Ivanhoe Grammar School. Like Laurimar, the eastern land is in Nillumbik shire, and remains undeveloped except for the Doreen primary school pupils, and the Plenty Valley Christian College.
Doreen was identified as one of the population growth corridors in the north-west region. More residents work in the construction industry compared with any other industry and a higher proportion compared with Greater Melbourne 25 per cent versus 8 per cent. In , 3 per cent of residents are attending preschool and 12 per cent are attending primary school. Almost eight in every 10 dwellings have access to 2 or more motor vehicles and about 73 per cent of residents drive a car to their place of work.
Ristic Real Estate phone. Yan Yean Road divides Doreen into 2 local government areas: The western part is mainly comprised of residential housing and is located within the City of Whittlesea. Population By it is estimated that the population of Doreen within the City of Whittlesea will increase by about 6, from 19, in to an estimated 26, with an increase in the median age over the same period from 29 years to 35 years. Diversity In around 1 in 10 residents speak a language other than English at home with the most common languages spoken being Italian, Greek, Macedonian and Arabic.
Families and households By the number of dwellings will increase from about 6, to 9, Lots of promises have been made to the people buying into this estate and they have been very slow to deliver on even the basics of those promises to date. It's a very anglo, with bland restaurants, and cafe's full of "want to be" cashed up bogans talking their latest aquisitions to keep up with the Jones'.
In summary, despite recent falls to property values the place is still ridiculously overpriced for the facilities, infastructure and distance from the real world. There will always be someone who has a negative experience and as a result a negative view of any place.
I would not place much store in what this person has to say. Not because I dont believe he is genuine I wont stoop as low as he did to suggest otherwise but rather because I know for a fact that his view is neither a reflection on Doreen nor is it the view of the great majority of people who live here a love it.
Doreen is a lovely place to live. Yes its far from the city and yes it is not perfect, like no place is, but it is green and peaceful and full of nice and friendly people. You can get coffee here that is as good as the coffee in any place in Melbourne, and that is saying a lot. You can buy pizza here that is better than any place in Melbourne.
The Indian and Thai restaurants are similarly top notch. Yes there is some food that is bland but then that is your choice. The facilities are actually top notch.
Great choice of schools and doctors, dentists etc. The real issue is lack of train and library but they are coming. In summary Doreen is a really beautiful place to live and a nice relaxing day to come home to. Having said that come and see it for yourself and make your own judgement. Wilstan I have to totally disagree with you. Your views are so extremely off that it makes me believe you are some internet troll. Lol this guy reminds me of that Scooby doo episode where some property owner dressed up as a ghost to scare off people so he can buy up more property.
We moved to Doreen 3 years ago, to an established home financially off we are the same as previously in Eltham but with much more land and a much newer home. We considered this a fair exchange for the travel to kids high schools, work and children sport adding an extra 15 minutes to every drive - used to be 12 minutes but with increased traffic and constant roadworks this has increased and would expect an increase until duplication of major roads, Plenty and Yan Yean.
The travel does take its toll on you. Now are children are older driving them to civilization is constant. There is already some complaint of teens hanging around the local shops. Overall the people and place is lovely, picturesque.
There is a different culture here, some less well off than other. I've noticed a larger portion of people smoke and have tattoes, than say in Eltham, Doncaster area but that may be because the age of most is young couples, young parents and more accepted in this generation. The community spirit around the Primary School activities is fantastic and I cant fault the wonderful Laurimar Primary. If you can handle the drive it is a lovely place to live. However be prepared for a culture change one is great community spirit the other the presence of some less classy persons.
If you have teenagers travelling far to school consider them and the driving them around weekends. Beautiful homes, plenty of open parks and walking tracks. Great place to bring up a family. We live in Laurimar, honestly we just love it here. The first time we came here looking at land we fell in love with the area.
Laurimar Primary is a great School. The shops are great and everyone is friendly. Their are people of all ages, most have other Family living near by, we have our whole Family living here now. There are so many nice parks and places to go for walks.
Their are ducks and swans, kangaroos, birds. The lakes and trees are beautiful. We really need a Secondary School, in the area. I am so glad we decided to move here, when I drive in over the bridge after work, I am just so gratefull that I can call Doreen our home. It has a special feel about it, it's a real Community where people are living their dream.
Doreen is one of those feel good suburbs that makes a person feel comfortable and at home. It is hard to put a finger on it. I think it is because of the great views, the surrounding hills, the greenery and the nice layout. The fact that one can get a superb coffee and one of Victoria's best sourdough breads adds to the charm. The only disadvantage is the roads are a bit narrrow and there is no train station.
However it is a shortish drive to Greensborough shopping centre and not much further to Doncaster. I was surprised to find that Lilydale is only 40 minutes away. Another great feature of Doreen is how close it is to the Yarra Valley. In fact it is part of the Yarra Valley. I have also found the people to be very nice and friendly and polite. Most people seem to have come from the Eltham, Doncaster side of town and seem to have moved here to either be closer to their jobs or because you can get better housing value.
I have been selling real estate in and around Doreen now for about 5 years and I have to say an extremely high amount of people have been excellent to deal with. Most of my clients have come from Eltham, Diamond Creek, Greensborough, Montmorency and surrounding areas. My family and I now live here and have decided this is our place for life, so much so I am about to open an office right here in the next couple of month's.
Regards SL from Morrison Kleeman. Doreen is a wonderful place to live. With an array of wonderful homes, fantastic parks, shops and schools it is the ideal environment for all ages. There is well facilitated parks to entertain the kids and lovely lakeside walks for others.
The tranquility is what really stands out for us, you can go out in your garden virtually 24hrs a day and 7 days a week and enjoy a peaceful relaxing environment totally free from the hustle and bustle that generally consumes most of our lives. The people are great and the facilities are terrific and continually improving. It really is the best kept secret in the northern corridor. Maybe I am gossiping but I think the key throwers that used to have parties have left the area!! I fing it a great place to take the dogs for a walk or get a good take away meal.
Shopping not bad and getting better by the week. Doreen is a great place. It is a housing estate though so you do get the odd party and dog barking but that's the same for most places unless you're on acreage. Laurimar school is supposed to be good and ours are a Yarrambat school which is excellent.
We've lived here for 2 years and can't find fault with it. The traffic down the yan yean road is bad during the morning rush hour though but traffic in Doreen itself is okay.
The parks are great and the Yan Yean resevoir near by is good for a quick walk. A very nice place to live. We are looking to buy land in Doreen and have been there many times. We have shopped there, gone for walks and looked at several houses and land. Hopefully we find something soon before it gets too pricey. Anyway it is right now probably the nicest new suburb out there. Doreen is the new Eltham. I have so many friends who live there and now we are building.
Most of my friends who live there were unable to afford Eltham and so moved out to a suburb that they could afford. Doreen has many nice developments. We have bought land in Laurimar, which I think is the nicest.
Having said that all developments are of a very high quality. Hopefully we will commence building pretty soon. Anyway it has a nice supermarket, nice greengrocer, a shop that makes very Yummy Pizza and a very good quality Indian takeaway. Then there is the proximity to Yan Yean reservoir and all its trails and tracks. We cannot wait to move in.. For all intents and purposes the honeymoon period is over. However our opinion of Doreen has actually improved even further. Over the last two years the shopping options have more than doubled.
We now have three gyms and many really nice restaurants. The quality feel has not diminished in any way and we truly love coming home in the evening. From almost all directions you get this impression that Doreen is in a lovely green valley, which makes the five ten minutes extra drive worth it. We have made lots of friends and the kids are enjoying their school. The wildlife and the general atmosphere is one of serenity. It also is quite conveniently located.
It takes 30 minutes to Ringwood North, 25 minutes to Doncaster Westfield. The CBD is 45 minutes in off peak travel and 55 minutes to an hour in peak. If Doreen had a tag line it would be "A very nice place to come home to". I love the undulating streets and get a great buzz out of going for a walk. Most of my walks takes me through at least four parks and by the time I return home I am nicely tired. At night when we return home it looks so picture postcard pretty and nicely laid out that we sometimes have to pinch ourselves.
Yes there are still some streets that are under consstruction but we are finally seeing the end of it. Most of Lend Lease land has sold out so Laurimar has very few remaining blocks that are not already established or under construction. The street trees are starting to grow a nice green canopy over the newer parts and that streetscapes are starting to bloom nicely. The last stage of the shopping centre is being built and its still looking very promising.
The great news is that the train is finally going to be built. Hopefully by most of the public transport issues will be resolved. I am pretty sure I will still live here then. If I remember I might even add another paragraph below. We live in Laurimar and cannot say enough nice things about it. It has very nice people. It is nicely laid out with beautiful parks and reserves. Its now got a very nice shopping centre.
We used to live in Mill Park and used to hear hoons doing burnouts every night. In Doreen you get nothing like that. It is also very convenient with good access to shopping centres.
Northland is 24 minutes away, Westfield in South Morang and Greensborough Plaza are 11 and 14 minutes away. There is expected to be a train station build in Mernda eventually on the corner of Plenty and Bridge Inn Roads as well as the Outer Ring Road built by the end of the decade will bring freeway access as close as Bridge Inn Rd 5 minutes drive.
Great feel great future great place. A quiet and peaceful place perfect for families, well presented homes , above all a safe community feel.
There is no privacy as to many gossipers want to know everyones business. People having affairs, key parties, nothing to do for the kids. The kids are stranded in the middle of nowhere, like the bronx, unless you drive them into civilisation.
Horrible people and you couldn't pay me to live out that way ever again. You must have had a very bad experience which I am sorry for. Your review does however seem very harsh and damning of what is a lovely community. What has always struck me about Doreen is the people.
They are on the whole better mannered and more considerate and seemingly happy. The whole place has a great atmosphere because of this.
Maybe different parts of Doreen are different. My experiences are from Laurimar. You must have just lucked out with really bad neighbours or something. The thing is my experiences and that of everyone I know is so totally different to yours that I am totally baffled by your circumstances. Anyway I hope you have found a better place. Very popular place for first home buyers. The are is slowly growing. There are heaps of land estates around that are.
Houses are affordable there. I didn't think Doreen prices were really in the realm of first home buyers. Even Mernda isnt anymore. The nice thing about Doreen is how the people who planned it allowed for a real mix of land sizes and house types. There are quite a few really beautiful town houses for sale in the low and mid ,s. There are also a few small cottage type houses on small blocks that are in the high , and low , The thing about Doreen is that it doesnt feel cheap.
In fact it is quite the opposite and feels very affluent to the point of a person feeling the need to dress up to go to the supermarket which has good and bad about it. We are all first home buyers at some stage in life. There is obviously nothing wrong with being one. However in Doreen you will want to be an aspirational first home buyer to feel like you fit in. By that I mean you will want to make your house and your front garden look nice and pleasant and not keep a rusty car on your front lawn.
You will probably not want to be a bogan because you will be very place if you do. The last part of the last sentence should have read " Used to be a lovely, friendly, peaceful place to live until a certain government organisation moved in.
Listen to the psychotic screams and yelling at 2am in the morning instead of peaceful sound of the bush. Have cigarette buts and used syringes left out in your drive way, and suspicious cars waiting for other suspicious cars to deliver things at all hours of the day and night. What a shame.
Is this the theme of a horror movie : or did the author of this comment just finish watching one before they wrote this. If this is in Nutfield then this comment probably does not belong here.
Nutfield is not in Doreen. Can you tell me if the bus goes to South Morang train station from Laurimer? Back Victoria Melbourne Greater Doreen. Not great for Nightlife. Who lives here? Reviews of Doreen, VIC. Great for Urban development with a distinct country feel Great mix of young and old that are community spirited The existing and planned infrastructure is terrific and eliminates the need to go too far. Not great for No train. The opinions expressed within this review are those of the individual and not those of Homely.
